More people commute out of Milwaukee County into Waukesha County than vice versa, U.S. Census Bureau statistics show.
The bureau estimates that of people working in Milwaukee County, about 57,200 live in Waukesha County, 20,000 in Racine County, 14,500 in Washington County and 13,200 in Ozaukee County.
Meanwhile, more than 68,400 Milwaukee County residents commute to Waukesha County to work.

The Census Bureau reports the figures as part of its Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics database. The latest year for which figures are available is 2022.

In the Madison metropolitan area, Dane County, home of Madison, is the destination for about 9,800 commuters from Rock County, home of Janesville and Beloit, while 3,100 people commute the other way, from Dane to Rock.

Within the Fox Valley area, the largest inter-county commuter flow is between Outagamie County, home of Appleton, and Winnebago County, location of Neenah, Menasha and Oshkosh. More people who live in Outagamie County work in Winnebago County than the other way around.

Marathon County, location of Wausau, sees about 2,700 inbound commuters each from Lincoln County, which contains Merrill, and Wood County, which includes Wisconsin Rapids and most of Marshfield. About 4,500 people commute from Marathon County to Wood County.
